Military Parade: the Story Behind the Pictures

It took me quite a bit of effort to occupy a good spot. Even though I arrived more than 45 minutes before the planned start of the parade, there were already crowds of people all over the place. The sides of the street were roped off, with soldiers and policemen guarding them. Even so, it seemed there were not enough guardsmen to prevent people from crossing the street.

Unfortunately, the best spot was reserved for the press (it isn't the first time a press pass would come in handy). Oh well.

I managed to find a good spot way down the Belwederska street. As the street is sloping down, it provided me with a better angle. I sat on the curb, because I wanted to have a very low viewpoint, street-level preferably. And a low and close viewpoint it was! When the tanks were rolling by, I had to quickly move the camera out of their way, so that it doesn't get crushed.

One thing I didn't think of is that the exhaust from the huge tanks isn't quite as clean as that of a normal car. After the tanks passed, I was covered in dust, grease and soot!
